Angels or muses, supernatural and ethereal beings or goddesses without relation to time? The story began a long time ago, when  the charms of their dances and performances are sung in Rigveda and Mahabharata, those peculiar female spirits existing both in the Hindu and Buddhist beliefs. Delicate, yet intricate gestures at the same time, they blend with slow and graceful movements, in a dance which became a traditional Cambodian one, called Khmer. You are truly hypnotized by it.

Apsaras - they are the main characters in the Hindu stories- they are depicted in the form of some bas-reliefs in the magnificent Angkor Wat, and the Royal Ballet of Cambodia turned them into goddesses of dancing , a “repertory” which is always present during  many of the events and the ceremonies of the place. The whole ritual, from the movements themselves –that tell different stories, to the precious costumes, with filigree embroideries, in amazing colours, to the rich accessories (particularly the crowns that stand for the rank of the character) is absolutely fascinating. The music is simple, they actually have some percussion instruments, no lyrics, as it lays stress on the dramatic effect of the interpretation.

The Apsara dance is absolutely wow at the Raffles Hotel, at Apsara Terrace (including the culinary experience especially presented for the spectators of the show ). In addition, the programme also includes some other traditional dances, too.
