Darls, we are officially in heaven! Code name: Langkawi, somewhere far away, in Andaman Sea, a few kilometers away from the north of Malaysia. It`s hard to reach, but it`s perfect to find.
And what about the eagle? Well, what is it, actually? In the natives`language, Langkawi means, in fact, the island of the brown eagle.
And the essence of this archipelago lies, as a matter of fact, in the Geopark which is worth millions, in the proper sense of the word, an extraordinary complex of protected areas, with a richness of nature and of fauna which can be rarely seen. Unesco World Geopark, with Machincang Cambrian Geoforest Park, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park. Plus shopping!

  1. Unesco World Geopark - the name is as relevant as possible! The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park area fascinates all those who reach this corner of the world with its incredible rock formations, close to deserted islands, where nobody and nothing can disturb you, being ideal for a private picnic and a bathe in the turquoise waters; you can then stop at Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), which came into being when a huge cave made of limestone fell down, and the result-a kind of marble and granite bed- looks like a pregnant woman, lying on her back. As interesting and…crowded as possible! All the scenery of the lake is exquisite, but you should take into account the fact that many people come here to relax, to go boating, to swim or to admire the thousands of native macaques.

 2. Hire a kayak and walk through the mangrove forests.

 3. Check the market, by all means (and don`t let the less fragrant smells overwhelm you) because the fish, the meat, and especially the colored sea of fruits and vegetables – many of them quite exotic to us - make the delight and give the local savour which you can feel to the full, here.

 4. Go to the wonderful Pantai Cenang Beach, to see a sunset worthy of being set in a frame.






 5. Do you fancy a good pizza?  Yes, in Langkawi! At Yellow Café, you find it as if it were in its place of origin. 

 6. If you want to try the best Malay restaurant, The Gulai House at The Datai  

and The Cliff Hotel, which stands on a rock, in a picturesque landscape, from where you can see the whole Pantai Cenang beach; these are the best options.

 7. The cocktails lovers will have some very pleasant surprises at Rhu Bar(Four Seasons Resort Langkawi), at the Sunset Deck in Bon Ton Resort or at The Cliff in Pantai Cenang.

 8. The Langkawi bird`s eye view with skycab, which climbs from the foot of the Machincang mountain at 650 m, on a length of 1700m and Sky Bridge, a suspension bridge on the same mountain, one of the longest in the world, don`t miss taking a photo of it, no matter what!

 9. Not to return from Langkawi , empty-handed, I`ll tell you where to go and get very nice souvenirs: Langkawi Crafts Complex, with silver ware, brass objects, rattan little baskets, but where you can also see batik painting methods, woven or carved in wood.

 10. As you have already got familiar with my habits, I try Street food wherever I find it, and here you will enjoy night market places which are held daily, in different locations; don`t worry, the staff of the hotel will tell you where they are.

 11. For a couple in love – Langkawi is anyway a perfect place for them - a sunset cruise with Cristal Yacht Holidays (www.crystalyacht.com)  or with Damai Indah(www.damahindah.com) will be the cherry on the cake.

 12. Make a tour by chopper, to be able to say you`ve seen the whole island from above.
