It used to be a royal Visigoth, Arabian and Christian fortress. It witnessed many histories, legends and events that created nations, changed worlds which we still have been reading about in today`s history textbooks .
Few constructions in this big, colored world had a chance of standing the test of time, of having such a longevity of beauty and fascination.
Fortress, palace, tribunal of Inquisition,prison and museum, Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos of Córdoba is the place where you feel centuries of history and come to understand how much a construction, like a huge mix of years, countries and cultures, can mean for humanity.

1. The Visigoths were the first settlers of this place, in medieval times, after which, during the Caliphate of Córdoba, it was turned into a royal palace  and later on, after the Christian conquest, it was changed into a fortified castle with 4 towers, headquarters of the Inquisition.

2. In 1492, the Catholic monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand received Columbus here, the period when he prepared his voyage to the Indias

3. Alcázar served as a garrison for Bonaparte`s troops, there following a period when the palace was used as a prison, until the 20thcentury,when it was changed into a museum.

4. Besides the Moorish influences that were preserved here, but also the Roman and Gothic elements, the gardens are, perhaps, the most beautiful part of Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos

5. The exotic feature of the place overwhelms everyone and is definitely worth “getting lost” inhere, for a couple of hours, while strolling among orange trees, lemontrees, cypresstrees, patios  and fountains, magical ponds and many aromatic plants and palm trees.

6. The Moorish baths and the collection of exquisite Roman mosaics were preserved as well as possible and are a real delight.
