It sounds, at least, exciting, don`t you think? And one of the most impressive scenery and patches of nature that I have ever had the opportunity and honor to see…yes, Langkawi owns a 550 million year old Geopark, the first of its kind in Malaysia, but also in South-East Asia!!, a fairyland of fauna and flora, woven with legends, myths and stories, but also with a local culture of preservation and promotion of this wonder, in which one day visit is perhaps very little…
I knew a few things about Langkawi Geopark and I had seen some pictures, but the reality was utterly different. While walking among spectacular rocks, waterfalls and lakes, among hills and little islands which take your breath away, while going through mangrove forests that you can find nowhere else in the world, I fancied that I was a kind of adventurer, an explorer of  nature miracles which I`d like to share with you.

Langkawi was awarded the distinction of World Geopark , by UNESCO in 2007, and is actually made of 3 areas: Machincang Cambrian Geoforest Park, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park (Island of the Pregnant Maiden Lake). The latter has a legend, too: it is believed that the lake came into being when a huge, limestone cave collapsed, and the remains look like a pregnant woman, lying back.

The bio diversity is unique: rocks, fauna and flora that have been living and growing for hundreds of million years-beaches, estuaries, coral reefs, caves, virgin forests, tens of tree species, but also little animals, especially monkeys, all of them living together, on one of the most beautiful tropical islands, in this part of Asia.

I also enjoyed going boating, then we stopped on a deserted island, for a beneficent sea bathing, ending, how else, but having a divine picnic (there are so many beaches, that is almost impossible for you not to find one, on which you can only be you and the sea).
