I find it very hard to imagine a top of beauty, but, for the sake of the game and of ..the top, in an absolutely subjective way, voilà the colored rank of gorgeous villages in Provence:

1.    I love Gordes for the special  way it unfolds from down the valley, or at the side of the road that comes out of the village; at one time, when you get to the other side, somehow diagonally across the area, you can see the entire village, like a birthday cake with many levels , oh, plus the handicrafts made by skilled craftsmen and the vineyards for monsieur Marc Chagall.

2.    Les Baux de Provence - is said to be one of the most picturesque in France and couldn`t be overlooked in my colored top; its location along the steep, rocky hillside is wonderful and the view is absolutely gorgeous, from a long distance, thanks to the huge rocks from the Hell Valley, which gave its name

3.    Roussillon is spectacular especially because of its ochre canyon which is also called, for good reason, Provençal Colorado; most houses, with a few minor exceptions, are painted in ochre, and they glow in the sunlight, looking like dream homes. It is still here that you can find exceptional wines, olive oil and many lavender-based products. Cool!!!

4.    Bonnieux - impressed me perhaps because I visited it before sunset, when there were no tourists, therefore it gave me a feeling of complete quietness; here I felt as if I had lived 200 years ago, in a village from a story written by Balzac or Daudet , maybe because of the twilight…

5.    Menerbes - is super nice and impresses through its narrow, private tiny streets where I went for a very pleasant balade (walk) to the Mairie, then to church of the village, admiring and eagerly taking photos of the roofs of the houses covered with tiles, in the same color and in a perfect symmetry

6.    Lourmarin has an impressive Renaissance castle, which it is famous for, worldwide. And maybe it is for its dream scenery that Camus decided to live here. I happened to be in the village on a fair day when all the little shops had all kinds of decorations outside, each and all very interesting and irresistible; so, I couldn`t leave empty-handed. It is still here that I ate the best caramel ice cream with salty butter…ever( at Le pain garni)!! Colored rec!

7.    Lacoste is very famous for the ruins of the Marquis de Sade`s castle, now owned by Pierre Cardin, but also by a stunning vista over the village of Bonnieux, plus extra charm through the paved, little streets and a pastis at Café de Sade, with some shopping at the antiques fair, which I couldn`t miss on a Sunday.
