Ah, bon, over a year later, and several km away, on my latest expedition, out of breath, on the French Riviera, I discovered its elder sister; perfectly located in Beaulieu-sur–Mer (can there be a more fore-doomed name for such a lovely spot on the shore of the sea?), a mansion 100% Greek style, which, I invite you to admire together.

It took the archeologist, Théodore Reinach 6 years to finish the construction, a villa drawn in such a way to look like the noble ones in the island of Delos and to imitate the style of the old Greece; it`s a construction that served as a model of inspiration for the family of his wife, Fanny, descending from the famous Ephrussi-Rothschild
2. The Kerylos Villa is strategically located on a promontory, from where the sea looks stunning and is designed with the precision of the classic, Greek constructions, with an accomplished taste for art and a flawless aestheticism
3. The rooms impress us with the frescoes, the mosaics and the stucco, taken out of the scenes depicted by Homer, with the Greek columns covered with Carrara marble, but also with the exotic essence furniture, as well as with the various elements and objects made in perfect harmony with the originals of ancient Greece
4. Being raised during Belle Époque, it benefits from all the advantages and technologies of the respective period, floor heating included!
5. For Théodore, ”the Greek spirit was both a dream and a reality, a memory and a present moment”, therefore, what he achieved by building the Villa Kerylos represents more than a house of a spectacular artistic taste, it is an ode to Greece and a heritage he had left to the whole mankind.
