It is not Telespan’s bestseller, it’s one of the most renowned and biggest graveyards in the world: Père Lachaise in Paris, one of the pilgrimage places for tourists who are very fond of history, Paris, gothic or romantic emotions.

Dating from 1804, this place hosts, if we can say so, a lot of great personalities from art, literature, science and history, from Chopin, Sarah Bernhardt, Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Modigliani, Molière, La Fontaine, to famous Romanians - Lahovari or George Enescu, lying on an area of 44 hectares. The name comes from Père François de La Chaise, Louis XIV’s father confessor, who lived in the Jesuit house which was rebuilt on the place of the former chapel, and the first person who was buried here was a five -year–old little girl, whose tomb doesn’t exist any longer, the graveyard having only 13 places at that time.

Père Lachaise still exists (the burials are being done nowadays), but, of course, it’s very difficult to have a ”place” here, because there is little room left and only the inhabitants of the capital have this “privilege”. You can see many mausoleums, mini chapels and special tombs, created by famous artists, that is why, among other reasons it became such a visited spot.

Other personalities who had been buried here: Lalique, Auguste Comte, Jim Morrison, Balzac, Delacroix, Bizet, Marcel Proust, Isadora Duncan, Richard Wright.

Colored curiosity: The Père Lachaise is estimated to have about 1 million visitors every year, being the most visited graveyard in the world.
