It is called “The Guardian” because, when you watch it on the outside, it has the severe and protective look of a vigilant onlooker that has watched over the city for centuries. It is true that the strictness of the “stature” compensates for the baroque architecture (brought to Portugal by the Italians) in a brilliant way, but it is still the sumptuousness of this impressive witness to the historic moments of Porto, that marks the splendid monument: Torre dos Clérigos.

On the outside, it is majestic, it`s true. But the true revelation comes when you start feeling the coolness among its walls, climbing its steps, high up,above the city. From this point, while watching the colors unfolding down below, you get to understand why Torre dos Clérigos is a landmark of Porto, the main spot from where the curious eye of man can catch the whole splendor of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The vista over here is truly incredible and it reveals the splendid Porto with its terraces, colors, bustle, river and winds.

And if you want to make the view from above complete, a view of which all those who got there admitted falling in love with, I also recommend the famous Dom Luis Bridge

and Yeatman Hotel (in  Nova de Gaia Villa, on the other side of the river), where the panoramas are really fairy-like.
