It`s true that in my stories about the splendid south of France, the cinematic landmarks slipped through very easily and naturally. It`s something about this corner of the world, maybe the sunlight, the stories, its special emotion that send you “dans un instant”, to a cinema zone…Well, the “film” of Marseille is as possible and charming as the tiny and delicate places of Provence, and the “main actor” in my today`s story is le Hôtel Dieu, that I will certainly choose for my next stop in the Provençal metropolis.
Located in a dream setting, in the old neighborhood of Panier, on top of a hill, a few steps away from the port and at ten minutes`walk in the shopping area –it`s a gem of an experience-hotel that richly deserves its own colored…list:

• What really fascinated me ,from the very first time, was, undoubtedly, the stunning view, but also the patina of old that the owners succeeded in preserving impeccably that period of time when they renovated the building

• The history of the hotel is also interesting, starting from the 12th century when the edifice was not a hotel, but…a hospital. More precisely, Saint-Esprit, and the present building was inaugurated as hospital, too, by Napoleon the 3rd, being called Hôtel Dieu. In 2013, it became the InterContinenetal Marseille Hôtel Dieu
• The baroque, French architecture, the rococó and neo-classicism touches, the art deco and modern details, all displayed in a perfectly preserved façade, marble floors, a lot of wrought iron and Mediterranean colors can carry anybody away in a very classy and sophisticated setting. With almost 200 rooms, all of them being exclusive, with Provençal embroideries, exquisite leather decorations, private terraces and dream views, your sojourn here is unforgettable

• Capian Bar is absolutely wonderful, whether you choose to stay outside, in a ultra comfortable and private décor or inside, enjoying music, artists and many delicious drinks

• You have two restaurants to test-one inside and the other with a terrace. Alcyone restaurant, a super creative and vibrant gourmet, in a Mediterranean style, with the chef Lionel Levy, is one of the few in the town that has Michelin stars

The same chef is responsible for Les Fenêtres Brasserie, too, that has a splendid view over the port and some fish and sea food dishes, equally wow

• The Spa by Clarins is on top of all the above-mentioned wonderful things
