After travelling for 15 years in the big, wide world, one of the most beautiful dates still lasts in my mind, a true, magical story, one of the most exquisite castles I have ever visited (and believe me,it has no connection with a possibly obsolete, but tender, nationalistic élan ).
I enjoy it with the same great enthusiasm whenever I cross its threshold,I can not get away from it, I never get tired of walking outside the castle or in its long, richly historical corridors, and year by year, I get to discover other remarkable details, new stories, examples and stories about yesterday and today. Some people say it hasn't got the tourist potential of Bran Castle, that the fame of the Corvini Castle overtook its renown, but I always rediscover an overwhelming charm, a stylish sobriety, a matchless style and architecture. Johaness Schultz, Carol Benesch and Karel Liman and the decorator Bernhard Ludwig are the artists who decided on the style and aesthetics of the castle, with Swiss and Bavarian mountain scenery influences. The painting and arm collections, all the unique works of art housed by the 160 rooms, the richness of the sculptures and stained-glasses, the salons and the imperial suite, so exquisitely and lavishly ornamented make Peles a must see on the list of every traveler who happens to halt on the Romanian lands. The Playhouse that admits 60 persons and the royal box, the Honour Hall with walnut tree carvings, the Concert Room and the Music Room,the royal library with the secrete door, the armouries, the neo-renaissance Florentine Room and the Moorish Salon, so beautifully designed, as well as all the cabinets and the council chambers, carefully made and decorated with objects that were very often brought from different countries, are the most important rooms in the palace. Peles was the first construction in Romania whose foundation is made of concrete and the first castle in Europe to be fully powered by electricity, but also the residence for 6 months a year of the first royal couple of Romania, the king Carol I and the queen Elisabeth, the famous Carmen Sylva, who used to write her poems and essays in the gardens and rooms of the fabulous castle.
