The prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, “Nababul”(“The Mogul”) as he was nicknamed by his contemporaries, starts the construction of a castle, as a token of his wealth and passion for the things of beauty that had a great influence on his entire life. He hires the famous architect, Grigore Cerchez (the one who had built the Royal Palace from Cotroceni), who minutely monitors the erection of the neo-Romanian palace on the spot of a former hunting lodge (where, it is said, that Peles was supposed to be built). 2 years later, the entire Romanian aristocracy admire one of the most beautiful castles in Romania, at the beginning of the past century and the
press calls it “the house of the Nabab” (“The Mogul”).

Three years after the Cantacuzino Castle was reopened, as a museum, one of the colored journey invites you to stop for at least several hours at the foot of the Zamora mountain, in the street with the same name…Once you walk in the main alley,you have the feeling that you travel back in time, at the turn of the 20th century, on a genuine, landowner's estate, surrounded by a park, waterfalls and artesian wells. The pavilions, the villa and the chapel belong to the ensemble of the castle which covers an extremely large area, and the grand room with the portraits of the princes on the walls, with an imposing chandelier, with no furniture, like most of the other interior rooms, renders something from the ambiance of the golden days.

Go for a leisurely stroll and greedily admire the impressive collection of
heraldry that shows the blazons of the dynasty of the Cantacuzini, the peculiar stained-glass windows, the richly decorated hardware, cast in bronze and the beautiful fire places in white stone.The most interesting and appetizing new part of the castle is the restaurant with the terrace from where you can see the wonders of nature, the proud mountains and all the green fields which fill you with energy, if you take a look round at the weekend to unwind and enjoy a delicious lunch.
